Huskies to host NCAA volleyball tourney games

SEATTLE — The University of Washington women’s volleyball team is staying home when the NCAA tournament begins later this week.
And that’s a good thing for the Huskies.
UW (21-8) learned Sunday that it would host the first and second rounds of the tournament, beginning Thursday at Hec Edmundson Pavilion. The school had already been named a host site for the rounds of 16 and eight, meaning the Huskies could conceivably host four matches over the next two weeks should they move on.
Washington will host Michigan at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. That match will be preceded by a first-round match between Hawaii and Portland State, which begins at 5 p.m.
The winners will square off at 7:30 p.m. Friday for a shot at the region semifinals.
This marks the ninth consecutive year that UW had advanced to the NCAA tournament.
