Steelhead closures

Most Puget Sound rivers closed to steelhead fishing on Feb. 1, because of a predicted low return of native fish, and the portions of streams left open will close Feb. 16. According to Anthon Steen at Holiday Sports in Burlington, the lower Cascade is one of the few places remaining open and with enough water visibility to allow decent steelheading. It will be legal from the mouth to the Rockport-Cascade Road Bridge through the 16th. Other terminal areas remaining open for hatchery fish through the 16th include the Fortson area on the North Fork Stillaguamish, and the Reiter Ponds area on the Skykomish.
