Bits and pieces

Action has slowed for halibut along the Strait, but it’s still fairly good. Checks at Olson’s Resort in Sekiu on Saturday showed 120 anglers with 29 halibut.

Sturgeon fishing is slow on the lower Columbia, where charter customers last week averaged one legal keeper per every 8 rods, and private boaters one per 11.3 rods. Roughly 20 percent of the sturgeon hooked have been keepers.

Shad fishermen below Bonneville Dam scored at a three-fish-per-person clip last week, although fishing pressure was relatively light.

The upper Skagit River fishery has been pretty good for wild steelhead C&R, but relatively slow for hatchery chinook.
