WHIDBEY ISLAND — The U.S. Coast Guard on Friday suspended the search for a man who reportedly committed suicide by jumping from a state ferry near Whidbey Island.

The 81-year-old was from Kitsap County. Officials say they found a suicide note in his car.

Local and federal search groups from throughout the region looked for the man in Puget Sound for about 12 hours, according to a news release.
