EVERETT — A trail of stolen mail has landed an east county couple in jail.
In a report outlining the allegations, a detective with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office recommends charges of identity theft, possession of stolen property and possession of stolen mail.
Detectives recovered 35 pieces of mail after serving one search warrant and 150 pieces of mail from a second search warrant.
The man was booked into jail in July.
The Gold Bar woman, 22, was arrested Wednesday after allegedly committing more mail theft after her release from jail in July.
The couple is accused of possessing seven stolen credit cards, which allegedly had been taken from mailboxes.
Both were present at most of the transactions recorded on surveillance footage at different stores. They allegedly used the stolen credit cards to buy thousands of dollars worth of clothing, laptops, televisions and car parts.
They’re also accused of possessing checks stolen from mailboxes, which led to an arrest at a bank while allegedly attempting to cash a forged check.
Detectives wrote that the couple “knowingly committed these crimes in order to commit further crimes and support their drug habit.”
The couple also is accused of running background checks on their victims to gain more information that could be used to steal their identity, according to court papers.
