SAN JOSE, Calif. — Aaron Kovar scored a highlight-reel goal on a free kick, but the Seattle Sounders couldn’t overcome a 35th-minute red card issued to Francisco Narbon in a 2-1 loss to the San Jose Earthquakes in a U.S. Open Cup round of 16 match Wednesday at Avaya Stadium.
The loss eliminates Seattle from the Open Cup.
Shea Salinas scored in the early going and Danny Hoesen’s strike in the 84th minute proved to be the match-winner for San Jose.
