Blood drive for Harvey victims
Edmonds Unitarian Universalist Congregation and Muslims for Life plan a blood drive, 10 a.m. Saturday at the church at 8109 224th St. SW, Edmonds. Work on preparedness
Prince of Peace Lutheran Church offers disaster preparedness training Oct 6-7. The cost is $10 for materials and lunch.
“The purpose is to help churches determine their own resources to respond to a disaster and to help churches develop connections so each knows who has the capacity to do what in a disaster,” according to a news release.
The training will include active shooter situations. Registration is requested by Sept. 27. The church is at 9320 Meadow Way in Everett.

Block party on 44th
The city of Lynnwood’s “Fair on 44th” block party is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 9. There will be information about health and safety along with activities for children, who can check out police and fire vehicles.

Celebrate on Casino Road
September marks the sixth anniversary of the YMCA’s Casino Road Community Center. A celebration is planned from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 26 in Building A of the Children’s Village, 14 E. Casino Road. The keynote speaker is Marcos Martinez, of Casa Latina, a Seattle-based nonprofit. Free on-site childcare is provided. Event sponsor Los Gavilanes has donated the food.
RSVP is requested by Sept. 15 for attendance and for childcare.

Flying back in time
The Historic Flight Foundation is hosting its Vintage Aircraft Weekend Friday through Sunday. The weekend kicks off Friday with a dance. A 17-piece swing band is expected to play. The main event is Saturday. People can ride in vintage airplanes, check out warbirds and biplanes, and enjoy live music. On Sunday, they can meet the pilots.

Learn to geocache
A free geocaching class for beginners is planned from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Rotary Ranch in Jennings Park, 6915 Armar Road, in Marysville.
Geocaching is a family friendly, real world, outdoor treasure-hunting game using GPS devices. Learn how to get started, equipment needs, types of caches and how to log a find. At the end of the presentation, head to Jennings Park to find your first cache. Pre-registration is required.

Animal shelter closure
The Everett Animal Shelter will be closed for all services Monday in observance of Labor Day. The shelter opens again for business at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
