VANCOUVER — Marysville Getchell got on the board first in its 3A state opening-round match against Prairie on Wednesday, but the Falcons scored twice in the second half and held off the Chargers’ late flurry in a 2-1 victory.
The Chargers, whose season ended at 10-5-4 with the loss, scored 20 minutes into the match, and Marysville Getchell goalkeeper Kaitlynn Knocke helped her team maintain that lead with a few early saves.
But Prairie scored early in the second half to tie the score, and then converted a penalty kick in the 60th minute to go ahead to stay.
It was the first state tournament berth in a team sport for Marysville Getchell, which opened in 2010.
