WIAA passes 14 amendments for next school year

The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association’s Representative Assembly voted to pass 14 amendments that take effect Aug. 1.
Among the notable passed amendments:
– Class 2B and 1B schools can opt up to a higher classification for all sports, or can petition up or down for football only.This makes the Darrington football team — which is moving down to a 1B eight-man schedule because of low participationnumbers — eligible for postseason play.
– Judgment calls that result in a player being ejected can be appealed to the WIAA with the use of video evidence.
– Baseball pitchers who begin an at-bat below the 105-pitch limit will be allowed to finish the at-bat, even if they surpassthe limit during the at-bat.
– Soccer players who receive two yellow cards in a match will be disqualified from the contest, yet will no longer besuspended for an additional match after the ejection. Teams won’t be allowed to replace the disqualified player in the lineup.
