CAMAS — Maddie Kemp’s goal in the 33rd minute was the difference in Camas’ 1-0 win over Jackson in a first-round match in the 4A State Tournament Wednesday at Doc Harris Stadium.
Kemp’s goal came off a Papermakers’ corner kick, and when the Timberwolves failed to clear their lines, Kemp tapped in the loose ball to put Camas in front.
Both teams had chances from that point forward, with both the Timberwolves and Papermakers hitting the crossbar with drives in the final 15 minutes.
Jackson goalkeeper Brooke Vandermolen also made a few big saves to keep the deficit at one.
But Kemp’s goal held up for Camas (17-2), which will advance to play Bellarmine Prep in a quarterfinal match. Jackson ends the season at 16-2-1.
Lake Stevens 2, Tahoma 1 (S0)
MAPLE VALLEY — The Vikings required a penalty shootout to book their place in the 4A state quarterfinals, beating Tahoma 3-2 on spot kicks after playing to a 1-1 draw after regulation and extra time Wednesday.
Tahoma forced extra time after scoring in the waning moments of regulation.
Lake Stevens (15-3-1) will travel to Skyline for a quarterfinal contest this weekend in a rematch of a Nov. 1 Wes-King district encounter that was also won by the Vikings in a shootout.
