Kamiak High School swimmers Elli Straume and Ava Collinge were announced as All-Americans last week by the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association.

Straume and Collinge received All-American honors for being among the fastest 100 high school girls swimmers in their respective events this past school year.

Straume, a junior, ranked 69th in the nation and second in Washington state with a time of 1 minute, 49.24 seconds in the 200-yard freestyle. That time came during a second-place finish in the Class 4A state meet last November, which marked her second consecutive runner-up state medal in the event. Straume has reached the podium in all 12 state races she’s swam during her three years at Kamiak.

The only faster 200 freestyle girls swimmer in Washington was Skyline senior Sarah DiMeco, who beat Straume for the 4A state title with the 14th-fastest time in the nation.

Collinge, a sophomore, tied for 99th in the nation and ranked third in Washington with a time of 55.22 seconds in the 100 butterfly. She swam that time during the state preliminaries, prior to earning a third-place state medal with a time of 55.33 seconds.

Straume and Collinge led Kamiak to a seventh-place team finish at the 4A state meet.

Last month, Snohomish sophomore Kayli Kersavage and Cascade senior Joseph Hofman received All-American diving honors from the NISCA.
