Anti-bullying ‘Buddy Bowl’ game set for Saturday in Marysville

MARYSVILLE — Preston “Buddy” Dwoskin lived his dream two years ago.
This weekend, he’s hosting with an anti-bullying message.
The Buddy Bowl, an annual football game, will be held Saturday afternoon at Marysville Getchell High School.
Dwoskin, a lifelong Marysville resident who has special needs, dreamed up the event two years ago. He was constantly bullied and teased at school as a child, he said.
His lifelong ambition was to be the head referee of a football game. He got that chance two years ago when he reffed the inaugural Buddy Bowl at Everett Memorial Stadium. Last year, amid the pandemic, the game was cancelled.
Dwoskin is a public speaker in the Marysville School District, sharing his message with elementary school students.
“I want to show the world that no kid deserves to be bullied,” Dwoskin told The Daily Herald in an interview. “My message to every child out there is it does not matter how old you are — you do not deserve to be bullied in our schools.”
Pregame festivities with guest speakers, including Dwoskin and Marysville Mayor Jon Nehring, are set for 1:30 p.m.
Kickoff is at 2 p.m. Second- and third-graders from Marysville and Stanwood will face off in the exhibition game, which will be covered by a reporter from The Daily Herald.
The game is free and open to the public.
Spectators are encouraged to bring their own chairs and dress for the weather.
