Recount confirms Holtzclaw’s re-election to Mill Creek council

EVERETT — Mill Creek City Councilman and Mayor Brian Holtzclaw will get a third council term after a machine recount conducted Tuesday confirmed his victory in the Nov. 2 election.

Holtzclaw, first elected in 2013, beat challenger Eric Cooke by 15 votes in the initial tally. That margin did not change with a machine recount.

In Stanwood, a machine recount confirmed Tim Schmitt unseated City Councilwoman Judy Williams by five votes, 826 to 821. He finished with 47.09% to Williams’ 46.81%, a margin of 0.28%.

Meanwhile, county election workers are completing a hand recount in a duel for a seat on the Alderwood Water and Wastewater District Commission.

Donna Cross, a commissioner since 1992, led Patrick Leonetti by 59 votes, 19,538 to 19,479. The difference was 0.15%, triggering the hand tally.

Results for all three contests are unofficial until certified as final by the county canvassing board. That panel is set to meet Friday.
