The Herald’s 2021 All-Area high school girls soccer teams

Eds. note: The Player of the Year and All-Area teams were chosen by The Herald sports staff based on coach recommendations, season statistics and first-hand observations.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Jordyn Latta, sr., F, Archbishop Murphy

The senior forward scored 26 goals and had 26 assists while helping Archbishop Murphy go a perfect 23-0-0 and win the Class 2A state title. Latta scored both of the Wildcats’ goals in their semifinal win and one of two in the title game. She was a first-team all-state selection by the Washington State Coaches Association.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Mike Bartley, Archbishop Murphy

After winning three consecutive 2A state titles with the Archbishop Murphy boys team from 2015 to 2017, Bartley guided the girls squad to its first state championship during his tenure. The unbeaten Wildcats achieved a 23-0-0 mark and posted a staggering goal differential of 125-7 along the way, including 18 to 1 in four state tournament games.

FIRST TEAM

Jordyn Latta, sr., F, Archbishop Murphy

Jojo Chiangpradit, sr., F, Archbishop Murphy

The senior forward tallied 24 goals and 21 assists and helped lead Archbishop Murphy to a 2A state title and a perfect 23-0-0 record. Chiangpradit was a second-team all-state pick.

Kaitlyn Manalili, sr., F, Shorewood

The senior forward netted 21 goals and dished out 11 assists as Shorewood went 17-4-0, won the 3A Northwest District title and reached the 3A state quarterfinals. Manalili is a Colorado School of Mines signee.

Kaeden Hansen, sr., F, Jackson

The senior forward scored 16 goals and added 10 assists as a member of a 13-5-0 Jackson squad that made the 4A state tournament and earned a share of the Wesco 4A title.

Sara Rodgers, jr., MF, Snohomish

The junior midfielder posted 31 goals and five assists to help lead the Snohomish to a 14-5-2 record and the 3A state quarterfinals. She scored or assisted on 56.3% of the Panthers’ 64 goals and scored three or more goals in five games. Rodgers was named second-team all-state.

Reeve Borseth, sr., MF, Archbishop Murphy

The senior holding midfielder helped anchor a defense that allowed just seven goals in 23 games and added five goals and 13 assists of her own as Archbishop Murphy went 23-0-0 and won a 2A state title. Borseth, a University of Montana signee, was named the 2A state player of the year.

Chloe Seelhoff, sr., MF, Glacier Peak

The senior midfielder netted 15 goals and dished out 14 assists to help lead Glacier Peak to a 15-5-0 record, a share of the Wesco 4A title and a 4A state quarterfinals appearance. The University of Washington signee scored or assisted on 52.7% of the Grizzlies’ 55 goals. Seelhoff, The Herald’s All-Area Player of the Year in the spring, was a second-team all-state selection.

Kaelyn Fernandez, sr., MF, Jackson

The senior attacking midfielder delivered 16 goals and 10 assists as Jackson went 13-5-0, earned a share of the Wesco 4A title and made the 4A state tournament. Fernandez was named first-team all-state.

Jessie Killian, sr., D, Archbishop Murphy

The senior defender helped anchor a defense that allowed just seven goals over 23 games, including one goal in four state tournament games, as Archbishop Murphy went 23-0-0 and won the 2A state title. She also had four goals and one assist. Killian was a first-team all-state selection.

Claire Esping, jr., D, Archbishop Murphy

The junior defender helped anchor a defense that allowed just seven goals over 23 games, including one goal in four state tournament games, as Archbishop Murphy went 23-0-0 and won the 2A state title. She also scored one goal. Esping was named first-team all-state.

Kate Sprink, sr., D, Glacier Peak

The senior defender helped lead a defense that allowed 1.0 goal per game and just two goals over eight Wesco 4A contests as Glacier Peak went 15-5-0, earned a share of the Wesco 4A title and made the 4A state quarterfinals. Sprink, a University of Idaho signee, was named second-team all-state.

Jadyn Smith, sr., D, Shorewood

The senior defender helped lead a defense that pitched eight shutouts and allowed 1.43 goals per game as Shorewood went 17-4-0, won the 3A Northwest District title and made the 3A state quarterfinals. Smith also scored 12 goals and provided the game-winning score in overtime of the district title tilt against Snohomish.

Tayla Peterson, sr., GK, Lake Stevens

Peterson averaged over seven saves per game and had three shutouts for a Lake Stevens squad that allowed 2.0 goals per game, including just 1.11 goals per game in Wesco 4A contests. The University of Utah-bound goalkeeper is a four-time All-Area pick.

SECOND TEAM

Taylor Campbell, sr., F, Archbishop Murphy

The senior forward tallied 15 goals and 17 assists while helping Archbishop Murphy to a 23-0-0 record and a 2A state title. Campbell was named second-team all-state.

Madelyn Davidson, sr., F, Cedarcrest

The senior forward netted 18 goals and chipped in 10 assists as Cedarcrest finished 12-6-1. Davidson, a University of Idaho signee, scored or assisted on 60.9% of the Red Wolves’ 46 goals.

Ryann Reynolds, jr., F, Glacier Peak

The junior forward had 15 goals and 10 assists while helping Glacier Peak to a 15-5-0 record, a share of the Wesco 4A title and a trip to the 4A state quarterfinals.

Natalie Cardin, soph., F, Mountlake Terrace

The sophomore forward scored 16 goals and added seven assists as Mountlake Terrace went 9-6-3. She scored or assisted on 65.7% of the Hawks’ 35 goals.

Cameron Bourne, jr., MF, Archbishop Murphy

The junior midfielder recorded 20 goals and 16 assists as Archbishop Murphy went 23-0-0 and won the 2A state title. Bourne was a second-team all-state selection.

Morgan Manalili, sr., MF, Shorewood

The senior center midfielder scored 14 goals and added 12 assists while helping Shorewood to a 17-4-0 record, a Class 3A Northwest District title and a 3A state quarterfinals appearance.

Kate Russell, sr., MF, Jackson

The senior defensive midfielder posted eight goals and 10 assists and helped lead a defense that allowed 1.3 goals per game and just 0.8 goals per contest in the regular season as Jackson went 13-5-0, claimed a share of the Wesco 4A title and made the 4A state playoffs.

Amelia Severn, soph., MF, Shorewood

The sophomore midfielder scored six goals and had 18 assists while helping Shorecrest to a 17-4-0 record, a 3A Northwest distrct title and a 3A state quarterfinals appearance.

Ruthie Hammer, sr., D, Snohomish

The senior defender anchored a defense that allowed 1.3 goals per game as Snohomish finished 14-5-2 and made it to the 3A state quarterfinals. Hammer was a second-team all-state pick.

Emma German, sr., D, Jackson

The senior defender helped lead a defense that allowed 1.3 goals per game and just 0.8 per contest in the regular season as Jackson finished 13-5-0, earned a share of the Wesco 4A title and made the 4A state playoffs.

Alyssa Montgomery, jr., D, Glacier Peak

The junior defender helped anchor a defense that allowed only 1.0 goal per game, including just two in eight league games, as Glacier Peak went 15-5-0, claimed a share of the Wesco 4A title and made the 4A state quarterfinals.

Paige Almanza, sr., D, Stanwood

The senior defender scored four goals and added six assists while anchoring a defense that allowed 1.7 goals per game as Stanwood went 10-7-0.

Lexi Miller-Wood, sr., GK, Arlington

The senior goalkeeper pitched six shutouts and averaged 6.8 saves per game while playing behind a backline of all freshmen as Arlington went 7-8-2 and allowed 1.6 goals per game. Miller-Wood is a Skagit Valley Community College signee.
