EVERETT — A man in his early 40s died Thursday morning after being hit by a car in Everett.

The man and a woman were arguing on the sidewalk on Evergreen Way around 5 a.m. when she crossed the street, Everett police officer Kerby Duncan said. She made it safely across. The man followed and was struck by a driver heading north between Center Road and 112th Street SW.

Law enforcement personnel attempted life-saving measures, but they were unsuccessful.

The driver of the car remained on scene and did not appear to be impaired, Duncan said. No criminal case was expected in connection with the fatal crash.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the man as well as determine his cause and manner of death.

The northbound lanes were closed for about three hours before reopening around 8 a.m. Thursday.
