PUYALLUP — After an agonizing loss in the state semifinal on Friday, the Monroe boys soccer team bounced back in emphatic fashion.

The eighth-seeded Bearcats routed No. 14 O’Dea 6-0 on Saturday at Sparks Stadium to claim third place in Class 3A.

The third-place finish was the second-best in program history for the Bearcars, who won a 3A state title in 2001.

Monroe allowed a pair of stoppage-time goals to twelfth-seeded Mercer Island in a heartbreaking 3-2 semifinal loss on Friday. Mercer Island advanced to the state title game where it beat No. 2 Lakeside 3-1 to capture the 3A title.
