GOLD BAR — A property owner shot a man he believed was stealing scrap metal from his property Tuesday evening north of Gold Bar.
Around 6:30 p.m., Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of gunfire in the 14500 block of Wallace Lake Road. The injured man, 60, reportedly had been trying to steal “scrap metal” when the 65-year-old owner confronted him, sheriff’s office spokesperson Courtney O’Keefe said.
The two men got into a fight that ended in the owner shooting the man in the leg and chest, according to the sheriff’s office.
The man was taken to Providence Regional Medical Everett. His injuries are believed to be non-life threatening, O’Keefe said.
The property owner was detained and interviewed by deputies, but later released. Police were still investigating the incident.
