ARLINGTON — An Arlington man died in a one-car crash early Friday morning on I-5 near Smokey Point, authorities said.

Around 12:20 a.m., Riley Maggard, 20, was driving south on I-5 near 172nd Street NE, according to the Washington State Patrol. Maggard lost control of his car, swerved across multiple lanes and into a ditch on the right side of the highway.

The car rolled over and struck a pole before stopping, troopers said. The car caught fire. Maggard died at the scene.

The crash blocked the right and center lanes on I-5 south. Around 4 a.m., the lanes were cleared.
