WSU SnoCo to host nighttime tidepooling event in Edmonds

EVERETT — The city of Edmonds is inviting community members of all ages to a tidepooling event under the stars.

The Starlight Beach Walk will take place 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday at Olympic Beach Visitor Station, 200 Admiral Way, at the base of the Edmonds Fishing Pier.

Volunteers from Washington State University Snohomish County Beach Watchers will guide participants along the shore of the beach. Edmonds’ waterfront parks are home to some of the region’s most diverse habitats, organizers wrote in a press release Wednesday. Winter nighttime low tides can reveal sea anemones, sea stars, crabs and other marine life. Volunteers will help attendees identify the plants and animals and explain the ecological roles of each species.

After exploring the beach, organizers will provide hot beverages at the visitor station.

The event will take place rain or shine, organizers said. No advance registration is required. Participants are encouraged to bring a flashlight, dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes or rubber boots.

In addition to the Washington State University Snohomish County Beach Watchers, the event is presented by the city of Edmonds and the Snohomish County Marine Resources Advisory Committee and Surface Water Management Division.
