2025 GMC Sierra EV pickup is building a lineup

Denali Extended Range and Denali Max Range are just the beginning.

The burly all-new GMC Sierra EV pickup truck was introduced for 2024, in one available trim: the Denali Edition 1, loaded with features and supplied with 754 horsepower from a two-motor powertrain sporting all-wheel-drive. Base pricing was about as close to $100,000 as you can get without getting dizzy.

For 2025, GMC is building a lineup of Sierra EV pickups. There’s the Denali Extended Range and the Denali Max Range, both available now. Two more trims, Elevation and AT4, are scheduled for introduction a little later this year. The Elevation moves into the entry-level position and the AT4 is off-road oriented.

The 2025 Denali Extended Range model can go 390 miles on a full charge, while the Max Range boasts a 460-mile range.

Output ratings are 645 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque for the Extended Range; 760 hp and 785 lb-ft. for the Max Range.

The Denali Max Range model I drove has a curb weight of 8,987 pounds. That’s some serious tonnage, but the oh-so-strong powertrain whipped the truck around like child’s play. It is a very, very fast truck. The ride is mostly smooth. Traversing patches of rough road can be a reminder that you’re in a truck.

Phenomenal all-electric capabilities aside, the Sierra EV isn’t just another brute full-size pickup. GMC’s refined approach to interior styling and workmanship are on full display. And the cab transcends roomy. It’s practically a room.

A 16.8-inch vertical touchscreen infotainment system with Google Built-In is a focal point inside the cab. Large (of course) physical knobs, buttons, and switches are in place to simplify operation, including climate control. A few of the infotainment functions can be a challenge, but I found ways to work around them or live without them rather than struggling.

A thing called MultiPro Midgate in the GMC Sierra EV enables extension of the truck bed into the cabin by folding down the rear wall and seats, creating a cargo area up to 10 feet long. In this way, items can be hauled that are too long to normally fit in the truck’s standard 5-foot-11-inch bed. With the tailgate lowered, length is nearly 11 feet.

Driving the Sierra EV pickup felt fantastic. Gone was the cringe that can dampen the fun in a gas-guzzling full-size truck, and the range stress that can haunt in an EV, even when it’s unwarranted.
