Crash near Stanwood kills man, suspect in custody

STANWOOD — A man was killed in an apparent hit-and-run crash about 5 miles outside of Stanwood on Friday night.

At around 9:20 p.m. Friday, Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a car crash along Pioneer Highway south of Sunday Lake. A man, a passenger in the vehicle, was ejected from the Cadillac Escalade and killed.

Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Lt. Craig Hess said the incident was being investigated as a hit-and-run. Hess said a man was in custody in connection with the crash. It was unknown whether drugs or alcohol played a part in the crash, Hess said.
