EVERETT – A construction foreman was rescued from the base of a 28-foot deep ditch this morning after a thick metal plate he was removing fell onto his legs.

The foreman and another worker were cutting the heavy plate off of the cover of a 54-inch pipe when it toppled, Everett Fire Department Assistant Chief Steve Parker said.

A crane lifted the foreman out of the ditch on a stretcher to a waiting ambulance. He was taken to Providence Everett Medical Center. The accident happened in the 2500 block of W. Marine View Drive. Police blocked traffic there for several hours.
