SEATTLE — A 48-year-old man has been arrested for investigation in the death of Shannon Harps, a Sierra Club employee stabbed to death outsider her Capitol Hill apartment building on New Year’s Eve.
Seattle police say DNA collected at the crime scene matched that of James Anthony Williams, who was released from prison one year ago after serving 11 years for first-degree assault with a deadly weapon. Williams has been on Department of Corrections supervision.
According to Deputy Police Chief Clark Kimerer, Williams and Harps did not know each other. Investigators interviewed Williams the night of the killing and he provided a DNA sample; by the time detectives learned it was a match, Williams had been arrested because he missed a required mental-health appointment.
