EVERETT — A Des Moines woman may face multiple felony charges after she allegedly rammed a stolen vehicle Wednesday into a patrol car driven by a Snohomish County sheriff’s deputy.
The woman was being held for investigation of three counts of first-degree assault, two counts of malicious mischief, attempting to elude and possession of a stolen vehicle. She also was booked for a gaggle of other offenses, including resisting arrest, making a false statement to police and driving with a suspended license.
The trouble began about 4:40 a.m. near the 3200 block of 132nd Street SE. Dispatchers were told about a vehicle in a disabled parking spot with people sleeping inside, said Shari Ireton, a sheriff’s office spokeswoman. Two women and a man were in the vehicle. A records check showed that it had been reported stolen.
As the deputy approached, the woman behind the wheel rammed the deputy’s patrol car and drove away, Ireton said.
The chase ended at the intersection of 121st Street SE and Highway 527. The fleeing vehicle was stopped using tire-puncturing devices and PIT maneuvers. Those are controlled collisions that deputies use to cause a fleeing vehicle to spin out and stall.
Three patrol cars were damaged and a deputy received minor injuries during the stop, Ireton said. Traffic in the area was detoured while evidence was gathered along the highway.
The fleeing vehicle’s driver and a 19-year-old woman from Seattle were arrested. The male passenger was released.
The deputy whose patrol car was rammed at the start of the chase was not injured, Ireton said.
