EVERETT — Firefighters found one man dead Monday night during a fire at a Lynnwood duplex.
Around 8:30 p.m. Monday, South County firefighters responded to a report of a fire at a two-story duplex in the 2800 block of 200th Street Southwest, according to a South County Fire press release. Upon arrival, they discovered the flames were spreading into the attic of both units and the exterior.
The high volume of content in one of the units made searching and extinguishing the fire challenging, the release said. Around midnight, fire crews located the body of a deceased male on the first floor.
Four individuals in the adjacent unit evacuated on their own, the release said.
Until 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, crews were putting out hot spots, the release said. More than three dozen firefighters responded to the fire.
First responders transported one firefighter, who has since been released, to Overlake MultiCare Emergency in Lynnwood for minor injuries.
The American Red Cross and Support 7 volunteers are assisting the four adults who were displaced, the release said. The Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
South County Fire encourages individuals to check their home’s smoke alarms, change the alarm’s replaceable batteries once a year and replace all smoke alarms after 10 years.
