EVERETT — A gunman escaped with an undisclosed amount of money Monday after he robbed an espresso stand in the 13400 block of Highway 99, Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen said.

The man walked up to the stand about 12:45 p.m., displayed a small handgun and demanded money.

Detectives ask anyone with information to call the sheriff’s tip line at 425-388-3845.

  • Ashes cause fire: A fire started by fireplace ashes caused damage estimated at $50,000 Sunday to a home in the 35600 block of Sultan Startup Road, Snohomish County Deputy Fire Marshal Gary Bontrager said Monday.

The homeowner returned from church shortly before noon and discovered the fire, he said. The owner had cleaned ashes out of his wood stove and placed them in a plastic bucket in the family room, Bontrager said.

    There were no injuries.
