50 years ago (1955)
Directors of School District 15 approved plans for an addition to Martha Lake School. The plans, submitted by William Arild Johnson of Everett, called for a new building west of the present building that would include 13 classrooms and a library. Also new were an enlarged kitchen and a play shed.
Heavy rains sent the Stillaguamish River and its tributaries on a rampage. A hole was eating away at the Mountain Loop Highway bridge approach at 22 Creek.
25 years ago (1980)
Helen Beeston, credit supervisor for J.C. Penney and district public relations director for the Washington State Federation of Business Women, was a catalyst for a section in The Herald honoring working women. Beeston was a longtime advocate for women.
