A 38-year-old man is in critical Tuesday morning after being shot around midnight in Federal Way.

Federal Way police spokeswoman Cathy Schrock said an unknown suspect shot the man in the 28600 block of 25th Place South, a residential area behind the Villa Capri apartments. She said the shooting occurred after “some type of altercation between the victim and suspect.”

The victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

This shooting is among more than 20 shootings that have occurred in Federal Way this year. In May, the Mirror reported the city had 23 assault with a firearm cases. Last year’s total count was 24.

Five murders have also taken place in Federal Way this year — all of them shootings.

In February, 16-year-old Wesley Gennings was shot in the back of his head while sitting in a vehicle.

In April, 19-year-old Jeffrey McLaren was found between two vehicles with multiple gunshot wounds.

In May, three men were shot in the span of 48 hours. All of them are presumed to be separate cases. Alex J. Kelley, 26, was found with a gunshot wound to his back in an apartment and townhome complex. Police found Frank Cohens Jr., 27, slumped over in a vehicle, deceased from a gunshot wound. And 30-year-old Adam Gutierrez was shot multiple times while walking his dog in a residential area.
