EVERETT – Vandals broke glass doors and windows at an anti-abortion counseling center in north Everett, an area where police say property crimes have been on the rise.
Investigators believe the Pregnancy Resource Center of Snohomish County in the 900 block of Broadway likely was targeted at random by vandals sometime before Thursday morning, Everett police Sgt. Boyd Bryant said.
People who work at the center think someone may have damaged their building because of the principles advocated by the center, said Alicia Champine, marketing development associate at the center.
“We maybe felt it was motivated by someone who was angry, just because they didn’t come in and steal anything,” Champine said. “We felt they just wanted to take something out on our building.”
Workers found the vandalism when they arrived at the center Thursday.
Property crimes, car prowls and vandalism have been on the rise in north Everett since September, Bryant said.
“There are cases every year in the city where juveniles find a building of opportunity and break multiple windows,” Bryant said.
A brick thrown through a door or window damaged an inside wall. Other than that, the vandals didn’t do any interior damage, Champine said.
