EVERETT — A unique vending machine that dispenses opportunities for service and helping others instead of snacks makes its return to the Alderwood in Lynnwood, in addition to a one-day appearance at a community Nativity Festival in Arlington.
In Lynnwood, Seattle Mariners’ radio announcer Rick Rizzs is slated to introduce the Light The World Giving Machine 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Alderwood. The giving machines, sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, first appeared in 2017 in Salt Lake City and have been in Lynnwood during the holidays since 2023.
Light The World, an annual Christmas initiative, invites all people to celebrate the meaning and spirit of the Christmas season by serving others, according to the website.
The machines provide an interactive experience for the public to give to those in need during the holidays. Donations can include clean water, clothing, meals, toys, and more to those locally and across the globe.
The giving machine will be in the Alderwood during mall hours through Jan. 1.
A second giving machine will be available during the Arlington Nativity Festival 12-9 p.m. Dec. 13 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 17222, 43rd Ave. Arlington. The three-day festival, set for Dec. 12-14, features live music, nativities and children’s activities.
