ARLINGTON — Fire crews continued today to battle a six-acre fire east of Arlington.
The fire, reported about 6 p.m. Sunday, is burning in timber along steep and rocky terrain between Arlington and Granite Falls near Jordan Road. The fire is difficult for crews to reach, according to David Roberts, a spokesman for the state Department of Natural Resources.
The fire has threatened at least five houses in the area off 155th Avenue NE, about four miles north of Granite Falls. Two families have been evacuated, Roberts said.
Local firefighters are providing protection around the houses. Conditions are extremely dry, Roberts said.
A helicopter from Eastern Washington is expected to arrive later today to dump water on the fire. Firefighters from around the region also are expected to arrive to help local crews, Roberts said.
The fire’s cause is under investigation.
