Gipson doesn’t attend neighborhood meeting

Published 9:00 pm Monday, October 24, 2005

While viewing the public access coverage of the Oct. 18 Everett Rotary meeting, a comment made by Everett City Council member Ron Gipson struck me. During this debate, Mr. Gipson indicated that he would make himself far more available to his City of Everett constituency than Mayor Ray Stephanson.

In the two plus years that I have been attending my View Ridge-Madison neighborhood meetings, Mr. Gipson has not graced us with his presence. During these two-plus years, I have affixed the address labels to the envelopes for our monthly neighborhood meeting notification mailouts. Meeting notification does go out to him. I also process the attendance sheets for the meetings and I have not seen Mr. Gipson’s name on an attendance sheet. Our neighborhood places meeting notification signs in several key areas of our neighborhood days before our meetings as a reminder to the neighborhood. As it stands now, Mr. Gipson doesn’t attend the meetings in his own neighborhood. I don’t consider this making one’s self “available.” Maybe his neighbors are small fish in a very large pond.
