Holiday basket drive showed small-town spirit

In coordinating the Lakewood School District holiday basket drive, I was astounded at the generosity and compassion shown by the community. This year we provided food boxes and gifts to 75 families in the Lakewood District. Without the outpouring of support from the community and district employees, this would not have been possible.
I would like to give a special thank you to Smokey Point Food Pavilion, which provided gifts for 40 children, gift certificates and a “holiday store” where children could choose a gift for their family.
I have been coordinating this effort for many years, and am truly amazed at what a small community can do when it works together. Additional thanks go to the counseling and nursing staff from each of our five schools. Their time and efforts were invaluable. I am honored to work and live in the Lakewood community.
