A good day yesterday

Thursday turned out to be one heck of a day for Husky football. First, the school received verbal commitments from Rainier Beach lineman Alameda Ta’amu and O’Dea running back Johri Fogerson.

Then, last night at the team’s post-season banquet, center Juan Garcia announced to the crowd that he will come back next year. Garcia was a fifth-year senior this year, but was granted a sixth year having missed two seasons because of injury. He had gone back and forth as the season progressed as to whether he would return or not.

Speaking of the banquet, awards were handed out, and you can see the full list here. Jordan Reffett won the Guy Flaherty Most Inspirational Award for the second straight year, joining Tom Wand and Don Mcketa as the only players to win the award twice. Louis Rankin and Daniel Te’o-Nesheim were voted offensive and defensive MVPs by their teammates.

Finally, we had this story in today’s Herald looking at how the Huskies will look in 2008.
