Pac-10 women’s Fab Five

1. Giuliana Mendiola, Washington. Of all her eye-popping qualities, perhaps desire ranks at the top.

2. Nicole Powell, Stanford. There’s nothing she can’t do on a basketball court – and hasn’t.

3. Shauntinice Polk, Arizona. Last year’s Freshman of the Year may be the best post player in the league.

4. Ebony Hoffman, USC: Fearsome rebounder and scorer who is the best interior passer in the conference.

5. Nikki Blue, UCLA. All-conference player last year as a freshman.

1. Stanford: Too much talent for a fall of any kind.

2. Arizona: Can make a run if Polk gets help in the frontcourt.

3. Washington: How many personnel hits can the Huskies take?

4. USC: Maybe this is the year the Women of Troy break loose.

5. UCLA: Athletic talent is unquestioned. Does it translate into wins?

6. Oregon State: NIT the past three seasons. NCAAs next?

7. Arizona State: Young but talented Sun Devils could surprise.

8. Oregon: Injury to Kraayeveld will be tough to take.

9. Cal: Good news is three starters return. Bad news is they’re not spectacular.

10. Washington State: Cougars are a year away from seriously competing.
