Vote for The Herald’s Prep Athlete of the Week for Feb. 2-8

The Athlete of the Week nominees for Feb. 2-8. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with the next poll and in next Wednesday’s paper.

Chayce Waite-Kellar | Monroe boys basketball

The junior scored 18 points against Snohomish on Jan. 28, and his 14 points and 16 rebounds on Jan. 31 helped the Bearcats clinch their first league title since 2011 with a win over Marysville Getchell. Waite-Kellar won The Herald’s Athlete of the Week for Jan. 25 – Feb. 1 by claiming 173 (60.70%) of the 285 votes.

This week’s nominees

Mia Brockmeyer | Meadowdale girls basketball

The junior scored 22 points twice last week, including the Feb. 7 win over Wesco 3A North-champion Stanwood.

Michael Carpenter | Monroe boys wrestling

The sophomore pinned three opponents to win the 113-pound division at the Wesco 3A North championships on Feb. 8. Carpenter performed his quickest work in the title bout, winning in 1 minute, 21 seconds.

Kamryn Mason | Lake Stevens girls wrestling

The Lake Stevens junior needed just 37 seconds to pin her opponent in 110-pound division title bout Feb. 7 at the 4A District 1 tournament. Mason also won her quarterfinal and semifinal matches with pins.

Noah Parker | Everett boys basketball

The senior scored 29 points and pulled down 15 rebounds on Feb. 4 to help the Seagulls secure a district playoff berth with a win over Stanwood.
