Sure the spring sports season just finished and summer is about to begin, but is it ever too early to talk football?
Nah.
Thanks to the Wesco Athletics website we can do just that. The Wesco website has already posted next season’s football schedule and with the league realignment it takes on extra significance. Next year Wesco will not only be split along North-South lines in 4A but also 3A. Marysville Pilchuck and Stanwood move down to Wesco 3A North, Mount Vernon moves back to Wesco (4A, North) and Lynnwood moves up to Wesco 4A South.
Territorial rivals Lake Stevens and Glacier Peak do battle in an interesting nonleague game on opening night (Aug. 31), which also includes two other rivals, Marysville Pilchuck and Arlington, doing battle in a what is now a nonleague game.
Some other interesting games: The Stilly Cup, Stanwood at Arlington, now a nonleague game will be Sept. 14; intra-city rivals Marysville Pilchuck and Marysville Getchell play their first-ever game against each other on Sept. 28; Meadowdale and Glacier Peak, the two strongest teams in Wesco 3A since the league’s inception, do battle in the league finale on Oct. 19.
The schedules aren’t perfect — there are two games scheduled for 7 p.m. at Everett Memorial and two games scheduled for 8 p.m. at Edmonds Stadium on opening night, for example — but at least it’s fun to look ahead.
