Finish the River Road

Published 9:00 pm Sunday, November 26, 2000

Regarding the Nov. 17 letter, “U.S. 2 Trestle: Why is eastbound worse?”: I think the Department of Transportation did a very good job making a tie-in with north and southbound I-5 as well as to Hewitt Avenue. All was done in less then 48 hours. Sure there is a bump, but it’s a whole lot better then we had before. I think that we should have had the same crew working on the Lowell-Snohomish River Road. Maybe we could get something done there also.

It’s been five years since that project was started. The only excuse is a need to let the road bed settle, in order to be sure it is stable. It has been said that opening the river road would get about 4,000 cars a day off the trestle. With everybody hollering for more roads, maybe an investigation into why this road is still closed would be in order.
