Arlington

Sponsors wanted for golf tourney

Golfers and sponsors are needed for the Arlington Animals Golf Tournament on Aug. 25 at Gleneagle Golf Course. Registration fees are $100 per golfer.

The tournament is scheduled to benefit Sarvey Wildlife Center and Purrfect Pals Cat Shelter in Arlington.

Edmonds

Art on display at library this month

A new art exhibit can be viewed at the Edmonds library through the end of July. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. The library is at 650 Main St.

The artist, Sue Robertson, works mostly with liquid or soft-body acrylic on canvas, board or watercolor paper. Her style is loose and colorful, and she often uses elements such as ink, graphite, paper and beeswax.

Robertson has shown her work at several galleries in the Seattle area.

Granite Falls

Mystery game for kids at library

A “Whodunit!” for kids ages 6 and up is scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday at the Granite Falls Library, 815 E. Galena St.

Kids can use anagrams, invisible writing and secret codes to discover which animal is guilty of a “mysterious crime” in the library.

Bridge repair to delay traffic

Crews from King County are set to make repairs to the Baring Bridge over the South Fork of the Skykomish River for approximately three weeks beginning Monday.

The bridge is on Northeast Index Creek Road between Index and Skykomish.

Crews will be repairing both timber and steel parts of the bridge that are deteriorating. Work is expected to be complete by July 30.

During the work, Northeast Index Creek Road will be closed from 639th Ave. NE to 641st Ave. NE between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Traffic will be allowed to pass through at the top of each hour, but motorists should expect long delays.

Red Cross team meets Monday

The Camano Island Disaster Action team of the American Red Cross plans to meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the Madrona Fire Hall, 916 Fifth St.

Lake Stevens

Triathlon at boat launch Sunday

The 2007 Barclays North Ironman 70.3 Triathlon is scheduled to begin at 6:30 a.m. Sunday at the public boat launch in downtown Lake Stevens.

A total of $30,000 goes to the top finishers in 12 age groups.

Registration is closed, but the event is open for viewing by the public. The bike course extends in a 56-mile loop east of the city.

Marysville

Children’s singer coming to library

Children’s singer-songwriter Nancy Stewart of Seattle is planning a performance at the Marysville Library on July 16.

The event is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at the library, 6120 Grove St.

The show is part of the library’s Rhyme Time program. Kids can sing, dance and play with words that rhyme.

Mill Creek

Don’t wash cars at home, city says

The city of Mill Creek is asking its residents to not wash their cars at their homes or in their neighborhoods.

Instead, the city is asking people to take their cars to commercial car washes, where wash water is treated through the city sewer system. City code prohibits the discharge of soapy water through storm drains, according to the Mill Creek Public Works Department.

This Saturday and Sunday, people can pledge to take their cars to commercial car washes by visiting the city’s booth at the Mill Creek Festival at the Mill Creek Town Center. The first 50 people to take the pledge will receive coupons for free car washes.

Monroe

Event shows movies outside

The Monroe Arts Council, the Monroe/Sky Valley Family YMCA and the city of Monroe are set to offer the third annual “Movies Under the Moon” film series at Lake Tye Park on Fryelands Boulevard.

This year’s selections and dates are: “Charlottes’ Web” on July 27, “Whale Rider” on Aug. 3 and “Grease” on Aug. 17.

Festivities begin at 7 p.m. There will be music provided by members of the Monroe Community Concert Band, as well as children’s activities. Movies begin at dusk.

Mukilteo

Council to discuss midyear budget

The Mukilteo City Council plans to review its midyear budget amendments at a work session Monday.

The session is scheduled for 6 p.m. at City Hall, 4480 Chennault Beach Road. No votes will be taken during the session, and there will not be an opportunity for public comment.

Some of the cost increases in this year’s budget are from changes to the plans for Mukilteo’s new city hall. The city also needs to increase its payroll because it’s added new positions and revised the job descriptions of others.

The City Council plans to adopt its midyear budget amendments at its July 16 regular meeting, Council President Jennifer Gregerson said.

Snohomish

Store celebrates with $2 BBQ

Snohomish Top Food &Drug is set to celebrate its renovated store with a visit from what the company says is the world’s largest outdoor grill.

They plan to use the 45-foot-long grill to barbecue up to 2,500 bratwursts from 3 to 7 p.m. today.

The store is at 1301 Ave. D. A brat and a soft drink will be available to guests for $2 with proceeds going to Kla Ha Ya Days, a summer festival in town.

Stanwood

Rotary auction nets $68,000

The Stanwood Camano Rotary Club collected $68,000 at its fundraising auction June 9 at the Camano Island Senior Center.

The club plans to use the funds to support international and local projects for the upcoming year. The money is expected to fund scholarships for local students, the purchase of new coats for local children through Operation Warm,” and other projects.
