SHORELINE — The King’s Knights volleyball team completed an undefeated season on Tuesday night, by defeating Granite Falls 3-0 in a Cascade Conference match. The set scores were 25-17, 25-21 and 25-11.
The Knights (14-0 league, 14-0 overall), ranked fourth in the state coaches poll, were led by McKenzie Daniels, who had 20 assists, 16 digs and three aces. Kaley Kenyon added 16 kills and 11 digs and Joclyn Kirton had eight kills.
King’s, the 1A state champions last season, had to make some changes at the beginning of this season, but never missed a beat.
“We had to replace four starting positions and we had to do that with a young group,” King’s coach Steve Bain said. “They worked hard in the offseason and they were rewarded for their effort with an unbeaten season.”
Bain said now its a new season.
“Everybody has a clean slate now,” Bain said. “You just have to take it one match at a time.”
Keeping the Knights focused could be one of the biggest keys to their chances of repeating as state champions.
“When you start looking ahead, that’s about the time you get the rest of the year off to think about it,” Bain said.
Ericka Smith had eight kills and Katie Christensen had 11 digs for the Tigers (6-8, 6-8).
“I thought Granite Falls did a really nice job tonight. They were very competitive,” Bain said.
