Feds continue Northwest salmon, steelhead endangered listings

The National Marine Fisheries Service has reviewed all the salmon and steelhead populations that are listed for protection under the nation’s Endangered Species Act and decided to continue all of the listings.
The review is required every five years, and the continuation means that none of the species have strong enough and consistent enough runs to be removed from protection.
“After considering the best available information, we concluded that all listed salmon and steelhead species in Oregon, Washington and Idaho will retain their current ESA listing classifications,” the fisheries service said.
