Puget Sound crab season ends Monday in most areas

Most areas of Puget Sound will close to recreational crabbing at the end of the day on Sept. 5. Summer-season catch cards are due by Oct. 1.

Marine Areas 7 North and 7 South (San Juan Islands) will remain open, but crabbers working those two areas Sept. 5-30 must record their catch on winter-season cards.

Submit your catch record cards to the state Department of Fish and Wildlife by mailing them to CRC Unit, 600 Capitol Way N., Olympia 98501, or by reporting them online.

Crabbers who fail to file on time face a $10 fine when they purchase a 2012 Puget Sound crab endorsement.

The state will announce winter crab seasons for Puget Sound in early October, after assessing the summer fishery.
