Ed. note: This is the first installment in a new blog series that will review all of the prep action from the night before.

Here’s a look at what you missed from last night’s prep action:

GIRLS SOCCER

Jackson tops Lake Stevens: University of Oregon-recruit

Cara Wegner took a pass from Lynnae George and after some fancy footwork blasted a shot over the head of Lake Stevens goalkeeper Kaiya Paulsen in the Timberwolves 1-0 win over the Vikings. The win jumped Jackson back into first place in the Wesco South after Kamiak was stunned by Monroe. Lake Stevens, meanwhile, lost an opportunity to get back into a first-place tie with Snohomish in the North standings.

Red Wolves have bite: Cedarcrest got an early goal from McKenna Swanson and held on to beat Lakewood 3-1 and Archbishop Murphy shut out Coupeville 4-0 as both teams remained in a first-place tie atop the Cascade Conference standings. Lakewood, which handed Murphy its only league loss, is in second alone.

Seagulls remain unbeaten: Everett got an early goal from Hayley Ayers and keeper Katie Johnson recorded the shutout as the Seagulls beat Meadowdale to remain unbeaten and atop the Wesco 3A standings. Meadowdale is in fourth place. Shorecrest, which is in second place, had its game with Oak Harbor cancelled because of a shortage of refs. They’ll play the game Monday, Oct. 10 instead.

VOLLEYBALL

Grizzlies upset Mavs: Glacier Peak got 57 assists from Amanda Burgess to beat Wesco 3A frontrunner and previously unbeaten Meadowdale in five sets. Glacier Peak won a nail-biter 26-24 in the fourth set to stave off the loss to No. 4 Meadowdale and then won the fifth set 17-15. Meadowdale remained in first place, however, after Oak Harbor, which was also unbeaten going into Tuesday’s match, lost to Shorewood in four sets. Glacier Peak, meanwhile, thrust itself right back into the 3A race, moving into fourth place after Everett lost to Mountlake Terrace in five sets.

Matchup setup: Snohomish (3-0 Wesco North, 5-2 overall) got 16 kills from Lanesha Reagan to sweep Arlington and Monroe (3-0, 6-1) got 20 kills from Melina Seabrook to beat Marysville Pilchuck, setting up Thursday’s showdown between the two teams. BOYS TENNIS

Everett doubles up: Led by No. 1 doubles team Andy Nguyen and Eric Allen, the Seagulls swept all three doubles matches to beat Lynnwood 4-3 in a Wesco 3A showdown and remain in fourth place. Shorewood, meanwhile, got another win from No. 1 singles player Hunter Nelson (8-2) to sweep Oak Harbor 7-0 and remain unbeaten on the season.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Keane warning: Anna Keane won the 500 free and helped the Mavericks win the 400 free and 200 medley relays to lead Meadowdale to a 90-80 win over Edmonds-Woodway. In another close meet, Mountlake Terrace got a win in the 200 free relay to edge out Lynnwood 85-76.
