ARLINGTON — One of the most active arts groups in Snohomish County, the Arlington Arts Council has made sure this city is enhanced with public art.

Murals, sculpture and indoor art are among the many contributions the council has made.

At its 13th annual fundraiser on Oct. 17, the council will honor its advocate of the year, George Boulton, and the Swingnuts Jazz group will perform.

Boulton has supported the arts in Arlington since the council’s inception in 2003. He and his family donated a grand piano to the Byrnes Performing Arts Center. Tickets to many cultural events in the city can be purchased at the shop Boulton started in 1968, Flowers by George. In fact, tickets for this event are available there.

The evening includes a glass of bubbly for all who arrive by 6 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

The $35 ticket fee includes a buffet spread with salmon and prime rib, auctions of art, plants, services and experiences, and the fun dessert dash.

The program includes guest speaker Heather Logan who will talk about the value of art in Arlington. Logan is assistant administrator of Cascade Valley Hospital where she coordinates a rotating art show and led the selection of art for the hospital expansion several years ago.

Auction attendees will review the arts council’s accomplishments since beginning its efforts during the city’s centennial in 2003, including three new works of art completed this year. “Fishing the Stillaguamish,” a sculpture by Dan Brown, is located on top of Haller Bridge on the Centennial Trail. “Memorial to Kent Baker” is to be located in Legion Park and “Transporting through Arlington,” a mural on Mike Nordine’s Arlington Muffler Shop, was painted by Snohomish County teenagers in the youth justice system, with adult mentors Jillian Mattison and Henri Wilson.
