Poll results: Archbishop Murphy boys soccer favored

So I tried something a little different this week. With the high school state tournaments taking place this weekend, I decided to run a poll on that rather than a Seattle-based sport.

The question was simple: Which of the 12 Snohomish County prep teams competing for state titles this weekend is the likeliest to claim a championship.

Unfortunately, I’ve gravitated toward using Twitter as the vehicle for my polls, and Twitter only allows for four voting options. I decided to narrow it down between the three defending state champions — Archbishop Murphy boys soccer, Snohomish softball and Meadowdale softball — along with the catch-all “Other.” So naturally, Archbishop Murphy, Snohomish and Meadowdale were the teams that received the majority of the votes:

The first games this weekend began at 9 a.m. Friday, so the poll was cut short then.

It probably makes sense that Archbishop Murphy received the most votes, considering the Wildcats are going for their third straight state title and have won all their games this year. Snohomish and Meadowdale were running neck and neck until what appeared to be a push by the Snohomish softball players to help their cause by retweeting the poll. It was enough to create a gap between themselves and Meadowdale, which are battling head-to-head at the 3A tournament this year, but not enough to overcome Archbishop Murphy.

While “Other” received a chunk of the vote, the only team that a voter actually named was the Glacier Peak boys soccer team, so I’m giving the Grizzlies all those votes and declaring them third. Hey people, that’s what you get when you vote “Other,” but don’t specify who.
