EVERETT — Construction is under way on a 256-unit apartment project near I-5 by the Swedish Medical Center Mill Creek Campus south of Everett.

The project will include nine four-story buildings and one recreation building at 13127 Meridian Ave. S. Work started on the project on April 28.

“It’s an affordable project similar to other projects that we’ve built in Snohomish County, it’s family oriented,” said Jack Hunden, president of Bellevue’s DevCo.

The 10-acre project is being built by a limited liability corporation called Puget Park. Heartland Construction, which is affiliated with DevCo, is the contractor on the project.

The site has an Everett mailing address, but it’s located in unincorporated Snohomish County. It’s designated as an urban center, one of about a dozen areas of the county that allows for higher density than typical for multi-family zoning.

The apartment buildings will be on both sides of Meridian Avenue. The county is requiring that the contractor straighten out a sharp curve between the two sides, but not requiring a pedestrian crosswalk, Hunden said.
