The second annual Baker Lake Sockeye Shootout rolls around this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and while the timing is going to be tight, there should be a few spots available. Holiday Sports in Burlington (360-757-4361) had entry blanks as of Monday, or print an entry form and see full rules and schedule at www.ccawashington.org/bakerlakederby. Entry deadlines are Thursday at 6 p.m. at retail outlets; Holiday Sports being the closest, and 10 a.m. Friday at the Swift Creek boat ramp and weigh-in station on upper Baker Lake.

Entry fees are $50 for new or renewing CCA members; $20 for members; $10 youth new members, and free for CCA youth members. Prizes are $1,000 for fish closest to average weight for all entries; $500 for largest sockeye; $250 for second largest; $100 for third; $100 for smallest sockeye (minimum 18 inches); and $250 rod/reel for youth largest sockeye.

Barbecue Saturday, 6 p.m., at Swift Creek picnic shelter; awards ceremony Sunday, 11:30 a.m. at Swift Creek ramp.
