EVERETT — Port of Everett Commissioner Troy McClelland announced Tuesday that he’s resigning to relocate for a job in Massachusetts.

McClelland, a Yakima native who has lived in Snohomish County since 1992, has served seven years on the three-member commission.

During his tenure with the port, McClelland helped lead efforts to clean up contamination along the waterfront, add the 41st Street Freight Corridor into the Connecting Washington Transportation Plan, and push for the port to be more aggressive in economic development.

McClelland also had been the CEO and president of Economic Alliance Snohomish County before resigning in 2015 to take a job with Synrad, a Mukilteo firm that makes industrial lasers. His new job is with Synrad’s parent company, Novanta.

Per state law, a new commissioner must be appointed within 90 days of the resignation. The commission plans to identify a process to fill the interim commission position at its regular meeting at 5 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Blue Heron Conference Room, 1205 Craftsman Way, Everett.

The interim replacement will fill a term until the next election. Then voters will choose someone to fill out the remainder of McClelland’s term, which runs through 2021.

District 1 includes portions of north Everett from the waterfront east to the Snohomish River.
