EVERETT — Coast Real Estate Services is celebrating its anniversary with a new name and a new vision.

Brothers Tom and Shawn Hoban started the company 30 years ago on Oct. 27, 1987, to manage a 29-unit apartment building in Everett.

Over the years, Coast has grown to manage, invest and provide services for apartments, mixed use and commercial real estate all over the Pacific Northwest.

Now, the Hobans have changed the name of the company to the Coast Group of Companies to reflect the fact its five separate real estate companies.

The five companies are: Coast Property Management; Coast Equity Partners; Coast WorkPlace Solutions; Construction Preservation and Maintenance; and Kapakai Select Insurance. Kapakai means coast in Hawaiian.

Together, the companies serve to manage residential, retail and office properties, work with clients to invest in assets and do general contracting and construction.

The Hobans have also brought in new management to the company — Matt Shaffer as president of Coast Property Management; John Maihofer as chief operating officer of Coast Property Management; and Susan Stratton as head of the Portland, Oregon, office of Coast Property Management.
