The Everett Rowing Association is sending a pair of boats to nationals.
Everett had two boats finish in the top three at the USRowing Northwest Youth Championships over the weekend in Vancouver, thus qualifying for the USRowing National Championships on June 8-10 in Gold River, California.
Everett’s men’s varsity four plus cox took second in its final, completing the 2000-meter course in a time of 6 minutes, 46.533 seconds. The team is comprised of Noah Langstraat, Andrew McCartney, Tyler Nordby, Stephen Bjorkquist and Dustin Mara (cox).
Everett’s men’s varsity eight plus cox finished third in its final in a time of 6:02.946. It’s members are Langstraat, McCartney, Nordby, Bjorkquist, Mara (cox), Ian Willows, Sam Jones, Parker Bumstead and Ethan Senn.
This is the second straight year in which both boats qualified for nationals, though with considerably different lineups. Bjorkquist, Mara, Bumstead and Senn were members of boats that competed at nationals last year.
Fatkin transfers to Montana
Former Glacier Peak High School girls basketball star Sammy Fatkin has transferred from the University of Arizona to the University of Montana.
Fatkin, a 6-foot point guard, appeared in 28 games as a freshman for the Wildcats last season. She averaged 11.8 minutes and 2.0 points per game for an Arizona team that finished 6-24.
According to a story on Montana’s athletics website, Fatkin’s decision to transfer was based on the role she was asked to play at Arizona.
“I want to be more involved on the floor instead of just a guard who only contributes by shooting from the corner,” Fatkin told the website. “My favorite part of the game is distributing the ball and getting everyone involved. I want to offer a team more than I was doing.”
Because of NCAA transfer rules Fatkin will have to sit out the 2018-19 season, becoming eligible in 2019-20. She will have three seasons of eligibility remaining.
